Outdoor Learning

Programs

We all understand the proven physical and mental health benefits of spending more time outdoors undertaking physical activities. We pair this with real tangible field experiences covering many topics which are relevant in the STEM environment. The kids will be discussing topics such as ‘how friction works to create fire’ and will be learning practical geography and numeracy as they examine co-ordinates and navigation in real time. We will be studying themes covered in the Curriculum for Excellence including People and Places (History) as they find out about traditional craft skills used by our ancestors.

Basic outdoor cooking skills will be covered while teaching health, safety, risk assessments and food hygiene. We hope to instil a love and respect for the natural environment as we employ a “Leave No Trace” ethos while camping and exploring. A challenging hillwalking day will require teamwork, empathy and determination to succeed. Canoe skills will again show everyone how to follow instruction and the importance of working together to reach a goal.
